Zambeel Dramatic Readings – One Year On

Today, 25 September marks one year for Zambeel Dramatic Readings.
It’s been a year of learning, exploring and exciting discoveries for all of us.We’ve grown as a group, taken risks and enjoyed the response of an enthusiastic audience with each performance. In all of this, there are many people to thank; people who have supported us along the way and have contributed to the group’s development.
Thank you Maliha Ahmed, for your brainwave that sparked this journey. We are grateful for your scrutinising critiques during rehearsals and hope you will always be there for us. Thank you Naheed Yahya, for the complete and utter generosity with your time; for giving us the visual identity that becomes our signature and for each poster that you have designed with such love and attention to detail. It is a privilege to have you in our team. Muzzummil Ruheel for contributing with his wonderful skills as a calligrapher, and writing the word Zambeel for us in his individual style. Hajra Haider, who has been our silent soldier, whose work has often gone unnoticed, but who takes care of the most vital aspect of our performance; managing the sound cues. And Seher Naveed, who recently joined us to do the same, we welcome you and hope we work together for many more performances. Shama Askari, our comrade in arms, who has spent hours exploring new texts with us and been there as a solid support.
And finally, Sabeen Mahmud for the continuous support she has extended for us at T2F, for lending us a space to present our work and being part of our journey.
But most of all, it is you, our audience that we thank deeply for appreciating our work and being there each time for our performances. You have encouraged us to go further and bring you new work each time. We respect and appreciate your interest and take your suggestions very seriously. Thank you all for sharing your interest in Urdu literature with us. Please keep those suggestions flowing; we take them very seriously!
Here’s to another year ahead.

About zambeeldramaticreadings

Zambeel Dramatic Readings aims to present texts in Urdu and English rendered in their dramatised form, to create a dynamic collusion between literature and performance. Referencing traditions of storytelling and the contemporary form of the radio play, our works traverse time and geographical boundaries to interpret and enliven narratives through sound and recitation.
