With 2012 the birth centenary year of Saadat Hasan Manto, and August the time to recall the birth of the nation, what could be more apt than to present a work based on Manto’s writings on Partition. As we prepare for the second of our works on Manto this year, we look forward to seeing you in early September, for TAQSEEM – a project that will include Siyah Haashiay and the short story Gurmukh Singh ki Vasiat.

Siyah Haashiyay is a set of 32 vignettes, each reflecting ironical perspectives on human nature in the background of the Partition violence. Gurmukh Singh ki Vasiat draws a silent and chilling picture of the circumstances of one family as it finds itself isolated in increasingly troubled times.

As we excitedly work towards constructing this work, we look forward with as much enthusiasm to perform it. We hope to see you very soon!

We have posted the information on our “Forthcoming” tab and will keep you updated closer to the time.

About zambeeldramaticreadings

Zambeel Dramatic Readings aims to present texts in Urdu and English rendered in their dramatised form, to create a dynamic collusion between literature and performance. Referencing traditions of storytelling and the contemporary form of the radio play, our works traverse time and geographical boundaries to interpret and enliven narratives through sound and recitation.
